Whitney Polich, LCSW

pronouns: she|her|hers

Whitney Polich joined Collaborative Insight Counseling Associates (CICA) as a licensed clinical psychotherapist in September 2022.

Whitney uses a trauma informed care approach that centers the values, goals, and identities of her clients as the cornerstone of the therapeutic process. Whitney aims to meet clients where they are, viewing the therapeutic process as collaborative and exploratory. She joins clients in the journey of self discovery and healing by offering a compassionate, insight orient modality that seeks to increase client understandings of themselves, their past, their relationships, and what has led them to the present moment.

Whitney orients her work around values of social justice, queer liberation and intersectional feminism as a means of creating safety and freedom for clients within the work. Whitney practices sex/kink positivity, body positivity/neutrality, cultural competency, and anti-racism in her personal and professional life. As a queer, cis gendered, white identified clinician, Whitney values and emphasizes the nuance and richness of identities and their importance in the therapeutic process. As a provider, she aims to create a space that feels safe and nourishing for clients, so that they are able to move from a place of surviving to thriving.

“All of us have within us an innate resilience despite the hardships we may experience —

My goal in session is to provide a safe, nurturing space for my clients to identify and tap into their inner resilience.”
— Whitney Polich, LCSW

Whitney’s prior experience in clinical mental health has offered her the opportunity to work across many client matters and diagnoses. Whitney’s experience has spanned across the treatment of PTSD, mood disorders, anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, and trauma. Her work has specialized around the treatment of trauma survivors, specifcally survivors of domestic, sexual, and community violence. Beyond a specific diagnosis or mental health challenge Whitney uses warmth and empathy to assist clients at every stage of life, transition point, or phases of healing. She seeks to use clients' past experiences to explore their present impact and how this can inform a future that is aligned with their goals.

While Whitney has worked with folks of varying identities, her clinical speciality is in working with LGBTQIA+ clients and women identified people. She has a particular clinical interest in relationship challenges, gender, sexuality, personal discovery, and unpacking systemic and individual trauma. Whitney actively works to examine these themes with an anti oppression lens, in order to not only have a better understanding of how marginalization impacts clients in their day to day - but most importantly how to foster resilience and recovery. She continues to expand her clinical knowledge and develop further skills through ongoing training, supervision, and peer consultation.

Whitney is originally from Colorado but has grown up in New England most of her life. After attending Dickinson College for her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Women Gender and Sexuality Studies, she came to Boston to pursue her Masters. After receiving her Masters in Clinical Social Work from Boston College Whitney worked in violence prevention and recovery, as well as medical social work with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Whitney received her License in Clinical Social Work in September of 2022.

Fun fact: While generally not a crafty person, Whitney picked up cross stitching as a hobby during the pandemic. She typically enjoys cross stitching while listening to a true crime podcast.
