Michael C. Izzo, LCSW

pronouns: He|HIM|HIS

Mike Izzo joined Collaborative Insight Counseling Associates as a psychotherapist in September 2022.

Mike meets his clients where they are, without judgment, and helps them identify the best path they see for themselves to move ahead. Mike sees his role as a psychotherapist similar to that of a trail guide: the client determines where they want to go and they take each step on the path; Mike is along to point out some important landmarks and assist when needed.

Mike’s experience and areas of focus include work-related stress and anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions, trauma, depression and substance use issues. Drawing from his own experience, Mike is also interested in helping clients, particularly men, access their emotions in a healthy and constructive way to strengthen their relationships and find fulfillment.

Mike spent over 20 years working in fast-paced, zero tolerance environments where emotions were not only ignored, they were considered irrelevant. Mike spent most of this time telling himself that he was unaffected by the setbacks and traumas he experienced, especially those from his time in the military. Over time, Mike realized that he needed help accessing these repressed parts of himself to find greater balance and peace within. Having witnessed many veterans, and others in hyper-masculine work and social environments, being crushed under the weight of stigma and unrealistic expectations, Mike aims to help clients find greater calm in their lives like he has. As part of that goal, in his free time, Mike is the host and producer of the What We Brought Home podcast. Mike and his co-host provide a platform for veterans to anonymously share their stories of service to help both guests and listeners reduce stigma, connect with others around their experiences and ultimately find acceptance within themselves.

I see my role similar to that of a trail guide —

While the client determines where they want to go, and takes each step forward, I merely exist to call out important landmarks and help navigate when necessary.
— Mike Izzo, LCSW

Mike is a military combat veteran as well as a former employee of several high growth startups. Mike attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, earning a B.S. in Sociology and Environmental Engineering. After serving active duty as an infantry officer in the Army for five years, including one year in Iraq, he earned a Masters of City Planning and a Masters of Science in transportation engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.

After leading large teams in the transportation and technology sectors for 10 years, Mike finally took the leap into psychotherapy to help others as much as his therapist has helped him navigate his own struggles with career and relationships. Mike earned his M.S.W. from Boston University and became a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) in July 2022.

Fun fact: There are few things Mike likes more than sampling the local diner food wherever he goes. Trying the house pancake is always a must; he has been known to bring his own 100% pure maple syrup for the optimal experience.
