About Us

  • At CICA, we collaborate to provide an inclusive therapy experience where your authentic self is welcome, centered, and celebrated.

  • At CICA, we envision a world where everyone feels accepted in seeking therapy. We believe that by creating an inclusive and welcoming environment, we can empower individuals to embrace and celebrate their authentic selves.

Together, we strive to create a safe and supportive space where people can feel heard, understood, and valued.

  • We value —

Authenticity in our staff and clients, creating an environment where all feel safe to show up, exactly as they are.

Diversity in our many identities, individual experiences, and areas of expertise.

Embodying respect in every communication, action, and encounter.

Inclusivity in everything we do, striving to ensure that our clients, staff, and the broader community experience CICA as a place where they are seen and valued.

Expanding access to culturally sensitive mental health care to the exceedingly diverse population of the Metro Boston area.

The plurality that comes with many perspectives, with each view valued equally

The humility inherent in knowing that our clients are the foremost experts in their own stories, and that we are simply partners in their therapeutic journey.

Ensuring equity of care across race, gender, origin, color, creed, caste, sexual orientation, neurodiversity, religion, or disability.

A sense of community for all the lives we touch.

Collaboration in our work, embracing the humble view that celebrating our diverse identities, perspectives, and shared wisdom in pursuit of our purpose can only make us better at what we do

  • Collaborative Insight Counseling Associates, commonly referred to as CICA (SEE-kuh) was founded in late 2018 during a political climate that many marginalized communities in this country experienced as being laden with discrimination, uncertainty, and hopelessness, all of which was further compounded by a fear of erasure and a lack of representation.

During that time, CICA’s founder, Gureen Singh, a first generation Brown woman of South Asian descent, and a relatively new therapist in private practice, found herself feeling similarly frustrated and disheartened at the lack of representation among her fellow clinicians in Back Bay. This seemingly clear microcosm of the oppressive structures perpetuated during the Trump presidency inspired her to create a group practice and safe haven for other therapists of color, who would not only feel a sense of belonging and community within CICA but would also provide that same sense of belonging and understanding for their clients.

What started as a mere “experiment” between Gureen and her friend and fellow therapist from graduate school, Lisa Garcia (who later went on to become a supervisor within the practice), is now a growing mental health group practice with collaboration and representation at the forefront of its being. CICA is a practice where clients can choose to work with therapists who look like them, speak the same language as them, and even share among them a common culture or lived experience.

CICA is proud to be Women of Color and therapist-led and is a symphonic amalgamation of administrators, providers, supervisors, and consultants, all of whom come from various walks of life, with a diversity of backgrounds, expertise, and cultures.
