pronouns: she|her|hers

Rachel Oppenheimer joined Collaborative Insight Counseling Associates as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in November 2021.

Rachel’s clinical style is collaborative, person-centered, and strengths-based. Her work seeks to explore the various experiences and contexts that come to influence and impact clients – past/current experiences, family, race & gender, and more to uncover your natural strengths to aid in growth. She believes that, deep down, we have all have a natural capacity to heal ourselves and works to tap into that inner wisdom with her clients.

We all have an inner wisdom that urges us toward growth and healing — we’ll work together to uncover that wisdom
— Rachel Oppenheimer, LMHC

Rachel approaches therapy from three practices: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Insight-Oriented (think of peeling back layers for a deeper understanding of ourselves), and Mindfulness-based approaches. Recognizing that all clients are unique, Rachel uses these approaches flexibly, and tailors the discussion to most appropriately meet each client’s needs. Rachel has been privileged in being able to work with diverse clients over the past 15+ years and actively holds herself accountable to remaining culturally competent and keeping her skill-set fresh through continuing education, peer consultation, and self-study.

Prior to joining the practice, Rachel specialized in working with late adolescent and college-aged students, and is now looking forward to working with clients from across the lifespan. Rachel is also looking to further develop her areas of expertise by working with those leaving high-demand, high-control groups (e.g. cults, MLMs, strict religious orders). Rachel also has considerable experience and expertise working with the queer community, as well as international communities, young professionals, and those exploring their sexuality.

Rachel grew up in Springfield, MA in a low-income family and went on to be a first-generation college student and professional. Her experience related to this continues to influence her work with people from similar backgrounds. Rachel attended Boston University where she graduated with a B.A. in Psychology, and later, Northeastern University where she earned her M.S. in Counseling and Applied Psychology.

Outside of the office, Rachel enjoys watching everything Star Trek, playing board games, and learning French and Japanese. She’s lived in the Boston area for almost 30 years and has no plans to leave anytime soon.
