pronouns: HE|HIM|HIS

Scott Thomson joined Collaborative Insight Counseling as a Clinical Supervisor and an independently licensed psychotherapist in January 2023.

Scott’s approach to therapy comes down to focusing on building a relationship to work alongside clients as they navigate the challenges in their life. Scott specializes in working with ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, and PTSD. Scott also helps clients work through life transitions, relationship issues, self-esteem, and working with emotions. Scott has an interest in working with LGBT and neurodivergent clients.

“I strive for therapy to be a place where people can show up exactly as they are and know they genuinely will be heard, validated, and cared for.”
— Scott Thomson, LICSW

Scott graduated from Ramapo College in 2015 with his BSW and Boston College with his MSW in 2016. He has been practicing social work in the Boston area in various non-profit and mental health roles. Scott is excited to be able to continue to serve Boston as a part of CICA. Scott’s therapeutic approach draws from CBT, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing but adapts therapy to align with the client’s strengths.

Research has shown that the best predictor of a good course of therapy is having a strong relationship between the client and the therapist. Scott puts this into action by working to create a therapeutic relationship that is a validating, supportive partnership. Scott uses therapy to not only work on challenges in a client’s life but a place to celebrate their successes and joys.

Fun Facts: Scott enjoys engaging with his nerdy side. Scott can be found playing video games or tabletop games. He has a fondness for his home state of New Jersey and strongly believes that the state has the best diners, pizza, and bagels.
