Genesis joined Collaborative Insight Counseling Associates (CICA) as a Clinical Psychotherapist Intern in September 2023. Genesis is offering individual therapy under the guidance of independently licensed CICA staff, including weekly supervision with Scott Thomson, LICSW and supplementary support from Raihaan Attawala, LMHC.

Hailing from a multicultural Filipino and American upbringing, Genesis understands the intricacies of navigating life as a first generation child in an immigrant family and the challenges that come along with it. Fluent in both English and Tagalog, she hopes to leverage her native tongue in helping minimize barriers for Filipino clients seeking psychotherapy.

Genesis was born in Quezon City, Philippines and moved to Boston as a child. Being raised in this city gave her the privilege of growing up alongside others hailing from various diverse backgrounds, all of whom have tangibly shaped her understanding of the world around us, and the many challenges we all endure in our daily lives.

Genesis is particularly experienced in working with adolescents, teens and young adults — she is eager to gain additional experience working with clients of all ages and backgrounds  Her previous client-facing experience within both the Boston Public School system and the Somerville courthouse, exposed her to she gained experience working with diverse populations and considering their unique backgrounds and narratives in tandem with treatment.

She tackles issues such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, life transitions, relationships, self esteem and stress management. Her approach is a person-centered and, strength-based, primarily incorporating principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Genesis embraces spirituality as a valuable aspect of one’s personal development. She recognizes that spirituality means different things to different people, and honors and respects each individual's unique beliefs and practices. Whether clients draw strength from a particular religious tradition, seek guidance in existential questions, or are exploring their own spiritual path, she is here to support them in integrating spirituality into their therapeutic journeys.

Genesis’ approach is rooted in creating an environment where clients feel safe to show up completely as they are, embracing the beauty within the imperfections that come with the nature of being human, and learning to love their journey of self-discovery with grace, patience and appreciation for themselves.

Genesis earned her Bachelors of Science in Counseling from Lesley University. Her internship at CICA is part of her work in completing the final year of her Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree at Salem State University in Salem, Massachusetts.

Fun Fact: Genesis credits her name to being her parents’ first child — but more so to her parents thinking Phil Collins’ band was just the coolest really.
